Ten years ago, an Irish artist quietly uploaded a haunting song from his attic — and changed the musical landscape.
Following a landmark 2024 that saw him top the Official UK & Ireland Singles Chart and the Billboard Hot 100 with his Diamond-certified hit Too Sweet, 2025 marks a major milestone for world-renowned Irish singer-songwriter Hozier as he celebrates the 10th anniversary of his self-titled debut album.
Originally released in 2014 via Ruby works/Island Records, Hozier went on to become one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful debut albums of the decade. To mark its 10-year anniversary, a special vinyl reissue was released on 16th May 2025 via Island Records, celebrating the album's enduring impact with exclusive new formats, expanded packaging, and bonus tracks pressed to vinyl for the very first time.
A POWERFUL BEGINNING
What began as a breakout single evolved into one of the most impactful albums of the last ten years. Fusing elements of blues, folk, and gospel with deeply introspective and socially conscious song writing, Hozier introduced a voice that felt both ancient and urgent. From the tenderness of Cherry Wine to the driving pulse of Jackie and Wilson, each track revealed an artist unafraid to explore the sacred and the personal in equal measure.
It all began with Take Me to Church, a soul-stirring anthem recorded at home in Bray, County Wicklow. The song’s evocative video, filmed entirely in Ireland, became a viral moment for its raw and resonant portrayal of love and injustice. What followed was a global groundswell: the track would earn a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year in 2014, reach Diamond certification in both the US and Ireland, and be certified BRIT 7× Platinum in the UK.
BUILDING A GLOBAL LEGACY
Released in September 2014, Hozier received widespread acclaim for its emotional weight and genre-blurring sound. It featured enduring fan favourites such as From Eden, Work Song, Someone New, and To Be Alone, and was praised for its spiritual depth, poetic lyricism, and richly textured instrumentation.
The album achieved multi-platinum certifications worldwide, charted in the Top 5 in over a dozen countries, and earned Hozier a BRIT Award nomination for Best International Male in 2015.
Since then, Hozier has gone on to release two further studio albums: Wasteland, Baby! (2019), which debuted at No.1 on the US Billboard 200, and Unreal Unearth (2023), an ambitious concept album inspired by Dante’s Inferno. The latter spawned standout tracks including Francesca, Eat Your Young, and De Selby (Part 2).
His 2024 deluxe release, Unreal Unearth: Unending, included the global smash Too Sweet, which topped the charts in Ireland, the UK, the US, and beyond — becoming his most commercially successful single since Take Me to Church.
