With the introduction of the LP in the mid-fifties, jazz entrepreneur Norman Granz presented the jazz world with conceptual albums based on the work of the most famous American songwriters. The most celebrated of these songbooks were the series made by Ella Fitzgerald singing Rodgers & Hart, George Gershwin, and Cole Porter, etc. The songbooks, however, were not limited to vocal performances as this instrumental homage to Cole Porter by the Oscar Peterson Trio testifies.
