With its mixture of swinging hard bop, beautiful ballads, African rhythms and blues, the 1964 album 'In Memory Of' clearly stood out from the very successful soul-jazz recordings that tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine had previously made for the Blue Note label. This may have been the reason why it was not released immediately, but only fifteen years later. Because in terms of musical quality, this album, which Turrentine had recorded with a great sextet, was in no way inferior.
