Multi-platinum singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy has announced his third album The Weight of the Woods, set for release on March 27th via Island/Interscope Records. The announcement arrives alongside the release of the album’s lead single “Funeral,” which premiered as BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record and is accompanied by a striking new music video.
The Weight of the Woods is now available for pre-order through The Record Hub across a variety of formats including the Indie Exclusive ‘Green & Black Dust Edition' as well as a ‘Marble’ version which is EXCLUSIVE to The Record Hub. All come with a limited edition signed art card (while stocks last).
The Weight of the Woods – A Return to Roots
Written and recorded between Ireland and Nashville, The Weight of the Woods represents a deeply personal chapter in Dermot Kennedy’s songwriting. Much of the album was created in Ireland, in a studio close to his home, with producer Gabe Simon, before sessions continued in Nashville. The result is an album shaped by Irish storytelling, organic instrumentation and a renewed sense of creative clarity.
Reflecting on the album, Dermot stated:
"To me, the album is a beautiful homegrown thing with Irish instruments and an Irish
story. There’s a forest behind my house, which is a haven for my sense of wonder. It’s
a peaceful place where I can escape. I’ve entertained the idea of living somewhere
else, but I don’t think I’d be happy anywhere else."
New Single “Funeral” Out Now
The album’s lead single “Funeral” sets the tone for what’s to come. A rousing and uplifting track, it premiered as BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record and arrives alongside a cinematic music video starring Charlie Rowe and directed by Charlie Sarsfield.
The single offers an early insight into the album’s stripped-back sound, with Dermot’s voice and songwriting taking clear focus.
Dublin Homecoming Shows
Known for his powerful live performances, Dermot Kennedy will take the album on the road in 2026 with his largest tour to date. This will include two headline performances at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium, marking a major homecoming moment.
