The Cure’s “Boys Don’t Cry” Reaches One Billion Streams, Limited Edition EP Formats Announced

The Cure’s “Boys Don’t Cry” has reached one billion streams on Spotify, marking the band’s first-ever billion-streamer on the platform and a major milestone for one of their most enduring songs. To celebrate, Fiction/Polydor have announced a new limited edition release featuring the track.

"Boys Don’t Cry" is available to pre-order through The Record Hub, including a limited edition 12” single and a 7” single exclusive to The Record Hub.

A Song That Has Stood the Test of Time

Originally released as a standalone single in 1979, "Boys Don’t Cry" has long stood as one of The Cure’s most defining songs.

The song later became the title track of the US edition of The Cure’s debut album Three Imaginary Boys and achieved international success in 1986, when Robert Smith re-recorded the vocal and remixed the backing track. Although this new version was created to promote the best of collection Standing on a Beach – The Singles, the LP itself featured the original recording, and the 7-inch version of "Boys Don’t Cry" (New Voice – New Mix), now retitled "Boys Don’t Cry" (86 Mix), is being released digitally for the first time.

To mark the song reaching one billion streams, Fiction/Polydor will release a new limited edition EP featuring "Boys Don’t Cry" (86 Mix) alongside a selection of key B-sides. The release will be available across 12” and 7” vinyl formats.

"Boys Don't Cry" (86 Mix), the 12" mix, and the B-Sides, Plastic Passion, Pillbox Tales, and Do The Hansa have been remastered by Matt Colton.
